Where shall I start… we’ve been here now for 4 days and already we get used to the way of living here.

Arrived Sunday evening in Entebbe and have been picked up by Mirjam (a Dutch sister living here with her Ugandan husband and 4 kids. We stayed for the night in a local guest house and took off next morning to… Bethel! It was a last minute decision but hey, in Africa flexibility rules!

The Bethel family here has 75 persons, 50 of them at Bethel in Kampala, the rest divided in small translation teams in two other places: Mbarara and Gulu. It’s an oasis of peace in the middle of chaos, dust and poverty.

After the tour it was time to drive to our destination: Hoima! It is about 3 hours driving but as Mirjam is pioneering while having a “fulltime” job (5 days a week is in Uganda actually a part time job), she always uses her precious time double. That means: preaching along the way! And no, of course we couldn’t snap out of it either: first thing to do was giving witness to people in the local supermarket even before we took off! So we started the work we came for, practicing Ecclesiastes 11:6 until we arrived in Hoima. We placed 32 brochures in Luganda and several Truth-tracts in Runyoro. Great start!

Our apartment is simple but convenient: a living room and a bedroom and even a shower and a flushing toilet! That’s more luxurious than 99% of the local people! Even though we have only cold water…got used to that too! Check out the pictures we published at the other (Dutch) messages on the blog!

On Tuesday and Wednesday we spent our time in field service, starting Bible studies all over the place! You wouldn’t believe it unless you were here. The pictures show the proof! A lot of people are more than eager to learn and the harvest is just too great for so few workers here, although the local congregation has 45 brothers and sisters plus 2 “foreign” language groups attached to the congregation. The whole program is in English, Runyoro and Swahili.

We have meetings on Friday evening and Sunday morning, already looking forward to meet all brothers and sisters we haven’t met up till now!

Next time more juicy details and pictures….
